a lot of printers have card readers in them. They're just a slot where you plug your memory card into them from your camera. You normally have software that comes with the printer that will let you print right off the card without loading it onto your system.
Also, there are a number of scanners out there that will scan off your film negatives and slides. The Epson I have at work is designed for just that. There is a light in the lid as well as the case. This particular one is an Epson Perfection 4490 Photo. (it's not the best for what I'm doing, but it's what was given to me.

Staples, Office Depot, CompUSA, Fry's... they all have them; and as you can see, they don't have to be super spendy. These are great to have if you ...uh.. lose the cable to your digital camera.
