How would you do something like that? That would be l33t photochoppage to pull something like that off... What'd they get a plush elf and put it in the tree?

I don't think it's plush -- it's translucent.

I'd guess what happened is someone took a picture and it had a funny looking flash up in that corner, and then they photochopped it to become a tree demon. Chances are, they used that particular pose because of the way the original flash was laid out.
