Those objectives were a big reason why I liked playing D3 a lot more back in the day. There are only so many times you can do "keys --> reactor --> exit" before it all starts to feel dull.

I liked the new objectives myself. I think it was natural and sort of inevitable that after two games of the same gameplay they would try to make it more complex. For me it added lots of depth to certain levels like Mercenary Level 3 for example, with bombing the heat sinks etc. Plus most of the new objectives in D3 were not all that different from each other. Most involved just picking something up and placing it somewhere lol. Others were just shooting different things.
