The one thing about Venom that made him unique is that other then being able to do everything Spiderman could aside from having superior strength in comparison, he overrode Spiderman's spider-sense. So Venom was very deadly and because of that he has always been one of my favorites.
My only gripe about the first Spiderman was the fact that he can't shoot webs on a true biological level, the spider bite only increased his physical attributes and senses. Being interested in science and all he created the web formula and the webslingers to wear around his wrists, hence the trademark position of his fingers when his web comes out. The fingers hit the trigger of the mechanism to shoot the web. Being a comic dork most of my teens this is something that bothered me with the movie.
Just like my only gripe about X-Men, aside from certain characters being out of place in X-History (I hate that!), was that Cyclops is taller then Jean Grey in the comics and Storm is taller then most the other X-Men aside from probably Colossus. She is by far one of the taller X-Women. Course, I'm biased because I thought Halle Berry was a terrible choice for Storm. I thought Vanessa Williams would have been a better cast. She has that dignified look about her that the comics made storm out to be. Berry looks like a deer in the headlights half the time.
Well...my geek is showing
