Installing fonts

how do you install font files to where you can us em on pretty much any program?....or at least the main ones like Word or something like photoshop

control panel/fonts
file menu/install new font
browse to folder with fonts you want to install
wait
select fonts
click install
thats it

Or you could do it the easy way and just copy the ttf file(s) to the windows/fonts directory. Thats all Merlin's method does.

Sorry, Merlin, you can. C:\WINDOWS\Fonts is just a regular folder that Windows views differently. Hell you can launch Photoshop, type some text, copy a file to C:\WINDOWS\Fonts, and then choose the text tool again in Photoshop and the new font will be there.

you needed to use the install function in win 3.1
all later OS's from MS monitored the fonts folders for changes, and did the installing behind the scenes.
remember how long 3.1 took if you had too many fonts in the fonts folder?

Jebus Flip - yes! I remember installing a bunch of fonts for my Mum, and the thing would site there and wheeze and groan forever before booting! Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Descent fonts
