Strange Timtest results

Ive been toying with the timetest in d3. Running at 1024 res OGL (p4c800 deluxe-e, 2.8 P4c, 512 corsair 2336 T1)
I'm getting 508FPS (6 seconds) with my radeon 9800 pro and oddly enough 483 FPS (7 seconds) with my Geforce 4 ti 4400. Same settings and resolution for all tests.
I'm wondering if this is CPU limited. Would it be worth getting a faster proc over a faster graphics
with future upgrades?
*edit* I tried running at 2.6 gigs and there was only 4 FPS difference. My next guess would be software limitations.

might be limited from the ramdac (adchanger to the analog monitor plug) the memory on the graficboard or whatever. (anialaising enabled? anistropic filtering? level of detail?) and i really doubt that d3 displays the values right in higher regions.
but anyway for what is it good? as important as the angle a raindrop hits your nose.
enable everything including soundengine netcode etc. put all on full detail and then give the minimum fps in timetest, thats the only value counting.

Tried a DVI output? You might be hitting the bandwidth limit of the D-SUB/VGA cable connector??

Assuming that nothing drastic happens with D3 and its graphics in the future, why would you plan your future upgrades according to how much they speed up D3? With those kinds of speeds it doesn't really matter much if it's sped up any. Just upgrade according to your other needs and be happy that D3 runs faster than you ever need it to.

That has to be the most retarded thing from you yet, Mobi.
While you're at it, ask him if he doesn't have too much twists or bends in his cable, because all those frames have to pass through those, woah!
FYI, VGA is
analog and bandwidth as you know it has no meaning here.

Xeon, try upping the resolution. If the frametimes are consistant, then your CPU is the bottleneck. However, I wouldn't really worry about it since thats MORE than enough horsepower for D3.

if you wondering why hte 9800 is only a little faster, it's because your using a radeon in opengl.... nvidia is still worlds ahead of ati in this area. Ati is faster in d3d.... but seems to not care much about fixing opengl problems..
My old 4200 blows away my 9700 in d3(and i was at least able to use antialising and vsync with it....the latest 4.2 drivers STILL have no working antialising in d3 and now the game studders if vsync is put on. I swear... the day the nv420 come out, i'm taking a hammer to this D@^^# card
