Freespace was so great that I have 4 copies (2 copies of freespace 2, 2 or 3 copies of D3, 6 copies of D2 and 2 or 3 copies of D1) Why do I have all these? Most of the extra copies came in packs either with a sequel or additional games I bought.
I would still have a hard time calling Freespace 2 over XvT (X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter) for all time best Space Sim of the late 90's early 00's. Plus, I can't call it over Descent for "... of All Time".
I'm just going off how much fun I had while playing the game. Descent is awesome, but I can't even count how many times I've run through the fs2 campaign. It never gets old and it's the game I have the most fun playing, thus, the best game I have played
Freespace had better ambiance then FS2, FS2 was fun in its own way though. FS1 was also fun if you spent a while working the table files, but missiles were more fun to play with in FS2.

Some interesting titles turning up in that listing. I do tend to agree with the majority of them... although some games (Diablo maybe?) there were actually inferior to their sequels, in my honest opinion...

Ditto, yet even after how many years FS2 has been out, I've never played it in full, only did training missions. It's still installed and I haven't touched it yet.
While I think nothing beats Descent on the multiplayer side, FS2 reigns supreme out of all the SP games I've ever tried. And now, with the work of the SCP team, it looks just as good as it plays.
