D2X-XL has a new developer who has experience in the realms of OpenGL and is eager to help improving D2X-XL! I have asked him to introduce himself and hope he will do so shortly.
Great, that should help a lot, especially since there are many people who have been begging for shaders. Hopefully either simx can port this or this new guy can code for Mac or in a platform-independant format as well.
